Active Theatre Review

Write for us

We welcome clear, original contributions about the craft of amateur theatre-making, from script selection and rehearsal choices to direction, design and production preparation.

What fits

Strong contributions focus on a real creative question and explain the reasoning behind a choice. We are interested in useful comparisons, thoughtful accounts of process, well-framed histories and advice that readers can adapt to different productions. Keep the focus on theatre-making rather than promotion of a particular show or group.

A useful pitch

Send a short proposal explaining the subject, the central idea, who it may help and why it suits Active Theatre Review. Include a possible title and a brief outline. Tell us whether the piece has appeared elsewhere or is being offered to another publication.

How to send it

Use the Contact page to send your proposal. Please do not send a complete article unless we have asked for one. We review pitches for fit, clarity and distinctiveness; sending a proposal does not guarantee publication.

Our point of view

A play is built through choices

We look at how small decisions about text, space, timing and collaboration add up to a performance that feels whole.
